I undertook a two day master class with Vicki learning oil painting techniques for portrait painting. I am an art teacher and amazingly this was my first time using oils, as previously my skills were in other areas. We worked together as a small group with other attendees in Vicki’s beautiful studio which was very inspiring! Vicki was very informative and encouraging in her teaching and her passion for portrait painting is very infectious! We were all drawn into the subtleties of the brush marks, colours and nuances under her guidance. Since doing the workshop I have had increased confidence in oil painting in my own work and in teaching oil painting to my secondary students. I highly recommend the experience to anyone wishing to begin oil painting or to learn how to tackle portrait painting.
The two day portrait workshop run by Vicki in her spacious studio was a very rewarding experience. The task of recreating a painting by a famous artist was both beneficial and challenging because I was forced to try different techniques which produced a looser style with soft edges. I used some new equipment such as Rosemary brushes, worked on linen for the first time, and I learnt some pointers about correct methodology. I also enjoyed meeting other artists which led to ongoing connections.
My daughter Rachel and I attended Vicki Sullivan’s ‘Master Class’ portrait painting, two day workshop last May and enjoyed a wonderful experience.
Vicki’s paintings fascinate me and I was eager to learn her method.
Vicki welcomed us into her studio which was set up with an easel and a working table for each artist. Her working methods and techniques became apparent as the two days unravelled. Vicki is a very generous master of her art and an inspiring mentor to all who want to learn through hard work.
I recommend Vicki Sullivan’s painting workshops to all adults who love to paint in the figurative tradition.
